ARES attending SARVAC 2019

Alberta Search and Rescue in partnership with Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada (SARVAC) is hosting the national Search and Rescue Conference SAR C2C 2019 in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta from September 13-15, 2019. We are delighted to report that the Edmonton and area Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES EDM) team will be attending. Along with attending the conference, we will have a presence along with other emergency services, and we have been invited to give a presentation on amateur radio and how it related to search and rescue.

The presentation, titled “Amateur Radio and Emergency Service ( ARES)”, will be given by NARC President J.T. (Mitch) Mitchell and will take attendees on the journey from what is amateur radio to how it works and how it benefits search and rescue. Mitch has a wealth of experience with emergency communications and is sure to deliver a thoughtful and entertaining presentation containing not only information, but also real world examples.

To help with resources and equipment, members of The Northern Alberta Radio Club (NARC) with join ARES EDM members in the NARCpac III communications trailer, which NARC has offered to tow and make available for this event. ARES and NARC members will be operating the trailer, demonstrating radio communications, and sharing information about ARES and amateur radio and the relationship with search and rescue.

This is an exciting opportunity for both ARES and amateur radio and we will both be prominent and visible alongside other major emergency agencies, and have the ears and eyes of attendees at the presentation. Being a national conference, this is a great opportunity to raise awareness about both ARES and amateur radio across the nation.
